Each summer we host our major show of the year, usually coinciding with a holiday weekend. Paintings for the summer show should be your original work. If you have done the painting in a workshop but if you feel that the instructor or mentor did not contribute to your painting then you can submit to the Summer Show. However, if the instructor or mentor gave you suggestions or ideas which you incorporated or supplied photographs or set up a still life or the painting was an exercise to develop skills then this painting is probably not your original work. The volunteer show committee does a great job, please respect the integrity of the guild’s wishes to present original work only in the summer show. This will help the committee do their work without any problems. It is up to you to decide. We notify our members of the timing, important dates and terms of entry by email well in advance. Once it is announced the entry form will appear below.
The Guild also arranges for an annual show in the ArtSpring lobby. Paintings that reflect input from instruction from classes, during life drawing sessions, and sketching and painting on location are all very welcome for entry into our annual Lobby Show which celebrates the learning and study encouraged by our Guild.
We also arrange for our members to display artwork in Lady Minto Hospital (semi-annual change-out) and the Country Grocer café (alternating months). Calls for expressions of interest will be sent to members by email.

The Copper Kettle Christmas Cards Challenge
Hi everyone, it is that time again to encourage Painters and Printmakers to design and make a seasonal card, the sale of which will support Salt Spring Island families in need through Copper Kettle.
Any medium will do, and if people need encouragement the print studio will be open on Tuesday October 14, up to two free blank cards available, others working, and some tea and goodies to keep them going. The printmaking room is room 3 in the courtyard at SIMS (Salt Spring Island Multi Space). Parking is at the main entrance at the top of the hill behind Mahon Hall or at the lot behind the building on Park Drive.
Important dates:
Tuesday October 14- 9:30am-2:00pm - work party day to work on your card in any medium
Friday October 24- final day to hand in card to me or at Apple Photo in the envelope labelled Painters and Printmakers Seasonal Card Challenge.
The date is early enough to allow an unbiased choosing of 5 cards, then printing and possibly ready for the Painters show in November and the Printmakers sale in December.

Show will be open to the public during library opening hours from:

Library is open [M-F, 10am-5pm; Sat,10am-3pm; closed Sundays]
ARTISTS HANDLE ALL SALES
ALL ARTWORKS MUST REMAIN UP FOR THE DURATION OF THE SHOW.
Purchasers can pick up their purchases on November 29th from noon onwards. The only exception is if a purchaser is an “off island visitor”, in which case a replacement painting should be hung the same day by the artist in its place.
Artists must pick up their unsold artworks at noon November 29th.
Entry deadline: October 19th 21:00 PST.

Eligible works: Original works (Paintings and drawings) by current Painters Guild
members.
WHAT CAN I ENTER:
1. You may enter 2 works to be hung* ALL WORKS MUST BE FRAMED OR
GALLERY WRAPPED AND READY TO HANG (see shows website and
SHOW POLICY on website).
(*We will hang the first work entered by the artist. As this venue has limited hanging space the second painting will be hung, depending on the number of entries and if space is available, or may be used as a replacement painting if a work is sold.)
I will let artists know by email soon after October 19th (entry deadline) and before
drop-off day, if there will be space to hang their second entry.
2. You can also bring CARDS or SHRINKWRAPS to sell at the OPENING DAY.
Cards and Shrinkwraps must all meet SSI Painters guild guidelines, and must
go home with you afterwards as we have no storage space at the venue.
* ALL CARDS for the sale may be originals or reproductions but must be clearly labelled as such, ie: reproduction of an original painting/print by...; or original painting by...; or original handmade print by...
ALL SHRINKWRAPS for sale must be original, a maximum of 16” x 20” in overall size, and presented in a plastic sleeve, but not in a ziplock bag. Watercolours must include a mat.
Other non-framed paintings in this category must be a maximum of ¼” thick.
ALL Sales: Are the responsibility of the Artist.
We will have a celebration of opening on October 31st, 2.30pm to 5pm
(Shrink wraps and cards may be displayed and sold then by artists in attendance.
SHOW SPECIFIC NOTES:
A condition of using this venue for shows is that the library requests the right to use photographs of the artworks for publicity purposes. By entering works you are agreeing to this request.
Neither SSI Painters guild, nor SSI Public Library can take responsibility for loss
or damage to works displayed in this venue.

In addition, the library staff will not allow works that they deem to be culturally
appropriative to be hung and they state that they may be removed at the
discretion of the library staff.

member: We will send out an email announcement closer to the date of

relatives and past purchasers.

Lady Minto Hospital Refresh
Biannual Show
Tuesday November 4th 2025 to May 5th, 2026
Entry deadline: Sunday November 2nd, 2025 5:00 pm
Eligible works:
Paintings or drawings that have never been shown before at Lady Minto Hospital.
Although we are not a juried exhibition we welcome submissions that are original in definition: Art created/conceived directly by the artist, representing their unique vision and skill.
All work must stay up for 6 months unless sold.
Limit of 1 to 2 original works per member. Paintings can be for sale but not a criteria. If you prefer to list your work as NFS (not for sale) that is also acceptable.
All work must be ready to hang or display and labeled correctly. Please see the SSI Painters Guild framing guidelines for details.
Entry cost: Free
Sales:
Submissions, depending on the artist’s choice, can be for sale. All sales are by direct contact between buyer and seller. Ensure paintings, when sold, are removed during hospital daytime hours. Same applies for new pieces hung in their place for sale. Please notify us by email: bwheat88@gmail.com if you sell your work during the show.
You may make arrangements for someone to pickup or drop off your work. Please let us know if this is the case.
